"Well, I think that was the way we looked at it. God only knows if Simon Smith actually had the damn thing planned out. We had great conversations of legendary proportions, given, we'd babble on in the true Wonder Stuff spirit, of our bitter contempt for the lack of good intentions in modern day pop.

All cry; "WHEN POP WAS POP!"

We'd throw examples at each other of exactly how not to present the band to our fans and other detractors. We felt that nobody, but nobody, had managed to film a gig in it's entirety, release it on video and really entertain it's audience. And why my darlings? 'Cos it's damn near impossible that's why. So, it was an easy decision not to fall into the trap of making a concert film. So many times with those things the more effort that goes into the cinematography, the duller the result.

Here we were embarking on a film project, squeezing vast amounts of cash out of Ploygram Video, putting outselves (Smith &

Stuffies), in an incredibly responsible position and for what?

To prove a point that long form music video still doesn't work? To raise our own profiles to ego busting proportions? Or simply to have something new to moan about?

Since The Wonder Stuff's formation, in March 1986, we have never really known our reasons why. I can't imagine how we've managed to carry on in such a hap-hazard manner. The only thing we've ever been clear on is how things should NOT be done. And it's in that manner that we made our contributions to 'Welcome To The Cheap Seats - The Motion Picture.'

Simon Smith put together a fine bunch of men and women that would shadow our many moves over a 17 month period. In England, Europe and America. Trousers up and trousers down.
